WHY DO WE BLAST FREEZE OUR COLD PRESSED JUICES & SMOOTHIES?

We have ample customers who ask us: What is blast freezing? Does freezing juices not destroy the nutrients? etc.

We have decided to clear up some concerns with this informed post to help put your mind more at ease.

What is blast freezing exactly?

Simply put, a blast freezer is just a freezer which is very cold. Blast Freezers are sometimes referred to as shock or flash freezers. The idea of this type of freezer is to very rapidly bring down the temperature of (usually) foodstuffs or fresh produce, freezing them very quickly. We blast freeze our juices and smoothies to -30°C in under 120 min. Not only does this allow us to lock in the vitamins, minerals and enzymes, but this technique also maintains our juice’s organoleptic (taste, colour and smell) qualities. Once blast-frozen, it is stored at a consistent -20˚C to guarantee that it retains all of its nutritional qualities until it is delivered to your door.

Why do we blast freeze?

Fresh cold pressed juice only lasts up to 3-5 days once pressed. Then it’s important nutrients start to deplete and fade. The life line of this juice does not allow us enough time to make, store and ship juices out in time. We had a vision to be able to reach ALL customers nationwide, regardless of their location in Aotearoa. Apart from certain South Island rural areas we are unable to reach, we have made it possible to reach any customer within New Zealand.

We understand in today’s busy times, we need all the extra prep time and shelf life time of products we can get without all the added preservatives and harmful processing methods that destroy important nutrients and enzymes.

Freezing is the only option that doesn’t destroy the vitamins, minerals, enzymes, or flavor of fresh juice. Down To Earth Juicery’s cold-pressed juices and smoothies, once frozen must be kept in the freezer and can be stored for up to 3 months without degrading the flavor or nutrition. Frozen juice, once thawed, tastes as if it was just made and all of the nutrients and enzymes are intact.
